Using diamonds in Quantum Mechanics
Proving that diamonds are more than just lovely twinkly things, scientists in England have been using them for further our understanding of the secrets of sub-atomic particles. By zapping one diamond with a laser, they managed to provoke a reaction in another diamond a short distance away. This process, called “entanglement”, is not very well understood, but has intrigued scientists since Albert Einstein proposed it while trying to disprove Quantum Mechanics.
